1979 Daimler DS420 Passenger Compartment
This rear compartment features the optional over-rug in black, covering
the standard wool carpets. The central division is on the left, with the
two fold out occasional seats folded away. The rear armrest visible on the
far right has the stereo built-in to the top, the lighting controls and
switch for the electric division window on the front. The other armrest
has controls on the front for the rear passenger compartment airconditioning,
rear passenger compartment heating, and duplicate lighting controls.
The rear passenger air conditioning is accomplished through a fan unit and
condensor located behind the rear seat in the boot (trunk). The fan blows
recirculated air through vents in the rear parcel shelf, and collects the
air by drawing it from under the seat. The main drawback of this system
is that once cold, the heads of the people on the back seat freeze...
The heating system for the rear passenger compartment works by
having a heat exchanger under the seat of the front left seat, and a fan
which blows the warm air through vents located at the outer edges of the
central division window. This keeps the rear passengers quite toasty, and
works wuite well, even in low temperatures.
